Harrytown Catholic High School

"I have come that they have life, and have it to the full". John 10:10

Careers / IAG (Information, Advice and Guidance)

There is provision for this in all Year groups and it occupies an important part of our desire to raise the aspirations of all pupils.

We also aim to broaden our pupils’ horizons and empower them to make well informed, realistic decisions at all key transition points in learning and work. We will ensure that Careers / IAG is presented in an impartial manner and promotes the best interests of the pupils.

Careers / IAG at Harrytown is a planned programme of curriculum activities and learning experiences that include ‘face-to-face’ interviews with a trained advisor, careers focused tutor periods, and educational visits. The purpose is to help young people develop the knowledge and skills they need to make successful choices, manage transitions in learning and move into work. The main aims of the programme are:

  • Self-development
  • Career exploration
  • Career management

Harrytown has links with outside agencies including colleges, universities, training providers and local businesses.  We are keen, where possible, to strengthen these further.

The school also has a Careers Library where students can access impartial IAG and resources.
